About Share Your Hearts.

Picture
Share Your Hearts Project was began in 2007 when Juri Ko went on a study abroad program to India. During that time, she spent two months interning for a local NGO in a village in Rajasthan. There she was fascinated by village lifestyle where is full of culture and spirituality. She taught English at a local elementary school in the morning and spent her afternoon with villagers. To communicate with villagers who don’t speak English, she started taking photographs on her small digital camera. Eventually, she became close with the village, and continued to photograph and document their everyday life. This was the beginning of Share Your Hearts.

When Juri returned to Tokyo, she felt a responsibility to bring awareness and share her experience. She told her friends about her experience and it blossomed into a photo exhibition/fundraiser for the children of India.

The exhibition was held in June 2009 for 10 days. The people were asked to bring school supplies as an entry fee. She also sold pencils to donate, as well as hand printed T-shirts and stickers. The proceeds from all of the sales went towards the fundraiser. Over 600 people came and we raised over 13,000 dollars and 7 boxes full of school supplies.
